ClassPlease is a booking tool for independent teachers. Teachers set up a page and share its link; students book classes on it. This page says what we keep about you to do that, who sees it, and what you can do about it. We keep as little as the job takes, we don't sell it, and we don't use it for advertising.

What we keep

Your account: your email address (how you sign in, and where bookings and reminders go), the name you give us, and the names of anyone you book for (a child, a friend), with an email address for any of them if you give one, so they get their own emails about the classes you book them into. That includes someone you give a place to when you can't make it: their name goes on your booking, and the booking's history keeps whose it was before. Passkeys you add are kept as public keys: they can't be used to sign in anywhere else. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we keep the address they give us (Apple's relay address, if you hide yours).

Who you follow: the teachers and studios you follow, which of them you've starred as favorites, and whether your feed shows all of them or just your favorites. Teachers see that you follow them, not whether you've starred them.

Invitations to you: when a teacher invites your email address, to their page, to a class, or to an invite-only class or one time of it, we keep the address, who invited it, to what, and when, so that signing in with that address shows every invitation on your Invitations page. The teacher sends the invitation's email from their own address; ClassPlease doesn't, except an invitation to a studio's team, which we email once each time the owner sends it. We use the address for nothing else.

Your bookings: what you booked, when, for whom, what it cost, what was paid and refunded, whether you came, and where you are on a waitlist. A cancellation keeps the record, marked cancelled.

If you teach: your page, and your studio's if you run one, with their classes, times, policies and team; your students (who's booked with you, their names and addresses), their class credits, and what you note about a booking. When you look up where a class is (the suggestions as you type it, or Find the address), what you typed for the place goes to Google Maps to find its address, with the country of your time zone and nothing about you; we keep only the address you pick, as the class's place.

Payments go through Stripe, on the teacher's own Stripe account. Card numbers never reach ClassPlease: we keep the amount, what it was for, and Stripe's references for the payment and refund. Paying at a teacher's checkout, with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, keeps nothing. A card you keep with ClassPlease, when you choose to save one (while paying, on your account page, or for a waitlist), is kept by Stripe on ClassPlease's own Stripe account, so you can pay any teacher with it in one tap: we keep a label like "Visa ending 4242", whether it came from Apple Pay or Google Pay, and Stripe's references for it and for you there. Each payment with it copies it to the teacher's account it pays, for that payment only. Remove it from your account page whenever you like, and we ask Stripe to forget it too. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what Stripe keeps. A teacher setting up payments gives Stripe, on Stripe's own pages, their legal name and what Stripe needs to check who they are; none of that reaches ClassPlease. We send Stripe the teacher's email address and their page's name and link, to start those pages with, and keep the name Stripe says their students' card statements show, to show them on their settings.

Paying a teacher directly (cash, Venmo, Zelle, where a teacher's students pay them themselves): no money goes through ClassPlease, so we keep no payment details. We keep the teacher's note on how to pay them, which their students see; which bookings are paid to the teacher; the class packs you ask for, and whether the teacher marked one paid or said no; and the teacher's own "Paid" tick on a booking, with when and who ticked it, which only their team sees.

The app: a token for the phone you're signed in on, so we can send push notifications there. Signing out of the app forgets it.

Your calendar, if you connect one: which Google or Microsoft account you connected, and the keys that let us write to it, kept encrypted. We make a calendar named ClassPlease in that account and keep track of the events we put there. That's all: we don't read your other calendars or your events.

Your visits: a cookie that keeps you signed in, and a few small ones that remember choices and steps in this browser, such as a typeface you picked, the page you came in on, or, while you're signed in, your own email address, to show on your account page. Only ClassPlease reads them. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party scripts. Our server logs each request with your network address for a short time, to keep the site working and to limit abuse.

What we do with it

Run your bookings: hold your place, take the payment, email you the details and a reminder, tell you when a spot opens up on a waitlist or a time changes, and show the teacher who's coming. Nothing else. We send email only about your bookings, your account and invitations to a studio's team, never marketing.

If someone books you into a class they pay for here, by card or with a class credit, and gives your email address, we email you the class's details when you're booked, a reminder before it, and word if it moves or your place is cancelled. For a free class, or one paid to the teacher directly, we don't email you. Each of those emails has a link that stops them for good; the booking stays as it is. We don't make you an account, and we use your address for nothing else.

Who sees it

Teachers see the name and email address of each person booked with them, the names of anyone booked for (not the email addresses given for them), attendance, and payments and refunds for their classes. They don't see your bookings with other teachers.

Other students see nothing about you. A teacher's page shows the teacher, their classes and how many places are left, not who booked.

Teachers who invite you see the address they typed, and not whether it has an account. They see what you do about it only as they'd see it anyway: that you follow them, booked, or (for an invite-only class) accepted.

If you teach at a studio, anyone who can see its classes sees your name on the ones you teach, with a link to your own page; your page lists the studio's public classes you teach. Your email address isn't shown.

Services we rely on, each getting only what its job takes: Auth0 sends the sign-in codes to your address; Resend sends our emails; Stripe takes payments; Expo delivers push notifications to the app; Google Maps suggests addresses for the place a teacher types where a class is; Google or Microsoft hold the calendar we write to, if you connected one; and the server that runs ClassPlease, with its nightly backups, encrypted. We don't give your details to anyone else unless the law requires it.

Google and Microsoft calendars

If you connect Google Calendar, ClassPlease asks Google only for permission to create calendars and manage the ones it created (calendar.app.created). It uses that to make one calendar named ClassPlease and to put your bookings and teaching times in it. It never reads, changes or shares your other calendars or events. ClassPlease's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: we use it only to provide the sync you asked for, we don't transfer it to anyone except as needed for that, and we never use it for advertising or let humans read it. Outlook works the same way with Microsoft, using the permission to read and write calendars only on the calendar ClassPlease made. Disconnecting on your profile page removes that calendar from your account and gives the permission back; you can also revoke it in your Google or Microsoft account settings.

How long

As long as you have an account, and your bookings as long as the teacher needs the record of who booked and paid (the way a receipt is kept). Sign-in codes are good for minutes; a session that goes unused for 30 days ends. Our backups keep two weeks of nightly copies.

What you can do

See and change your name, the people you book for and their email addresses, the card you keep, your bookings and what you're following on your account page. Export: email us and we'll send what we hold about you. Delete your account from your account page (or the app), two ways. Either ends your sign-in on every device and removes your passkeys, your phones from push notifications, your calendar link, and your calendar connection (and the ClassPlease calendar from your account). Keep my history leaves your bookings and your teachers' records as they are, so signing in again with the same address brings them back. Erase me takes your name and email address off everything, and the addresses you gave for the people you book for: your upcoming bookings are cancelled under their cancellation policies, you leave every team, your card and the invitations to your address are forgotten (by Stripe too), and in your teachers' records you become "Former student", with their notes about you removed; the records of what was booked and paid stay, with nobody in them. Teachers who own a page close it before erasing themselves.

Closing a page (a teacher's own, or a studio's, from the foot of its settings): its classes to come are cancelled and everyone booked gets everything back, the class credits held with it end and what was paid for them is refunded, and everyone it touches is emailed once. Its teacher's account carries on as a student's. The record of what was booked, paid and refunded is kept, the way a receipt is, and the page's address shows that it closed for three months before anyone else can use it.

Children

ClassPlease accounts are for adults. A parent or guardian books for a child by name, and can give an email address for them to get their own reminders; we keep nothing else about the child.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll say so here with a new date, and email account holders if the change affects them.
